Dato has been more than a decade in the making. First conceived at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, it has been completely reimagined twice before its release at Gallery Type. The result is a typeface shaped by history, refined over time, and designed to remain relevant.

Rooted in early Renaissance type and informed by Dutch luminaries such as Bram de Does and Gerrit Noordzij, Dato brings a rich typographic history into the present. Two optical approaches, one unmistakable character: Dato Text delivers remarkable balance, rhythm, and clarity even at the smallest sizes, while Dato brings distinctive elegance, presence, and personality to larger settings.

With more than 1,100 glyphs, true small caps, and an extensive repertoire of ligatures and special characters, Dato meets the highest demands of editorial and corporate typography. Neither nostalgic nor driven by trends, Dato combines the familiarity of tradition with the confidence of contemporary design. Made for publications worth keeping and brands built to last — for those who think in decades, not campaigns.
